Class levels
Beginners
For all new students or those with less than two years’ experience of Iyengar yoga. Basic yoga postures (asanas) are taught to develop strength, stamina and flexibility, and they’re suitable for any age group. You don’t have to complete an Introduction to Iyengar yoga Course first, though we do recommend it. Those with other yoga experience are advised to start with a Beginners yoga class. Teachers can recommend if other levels would be more suitable.
General
For students who’ve been coming to Iyengar yoga classes regularly for at least two years. Work is more intensive than at Beginners’ level and you’ll be introduced to a wider variety of asanas, and basic pranayama.
Intermediate
For students with at least four years’ training in Iyengar yoga, who can maintain a stable Sirsasana and Sarvangasana for at least five minutes and who have established an independent practice. Work will be more demanding than at General level and asanas are studied in more detail.

What can you expect at our Iyengar yoga studio classes?
Iyengar Yoga is a traditional method of yoga with an emphasis on safety, detail, precision and alignment. You can expect:
- A safe, methodical progression of yoga postures.
- Focus on technique – precision, alignment and awareness in performing the yoga postures.
- Use of sequencing to develop strength, flexibility, stamina, concentration and relaxation.
- Clear demonstration and explanation by the country’s most experienced teachers.
- Individual correction and adjustment by the teacher when necessary.
Class Levels
Ideal for complete beginners, our six-week course offers a structured introduction to Iyengar yoga. Taught in small groups by some of the country’s most experienced yoga teachers, you’ll learn the fundamental postures and principles, gradually building your practice over the six weeks. It’s great value for money too. The course costs £85 and includes:
- Six 75-minute course sessions
- Three months membership
- Two free Beginners level classes
