While Iyengar yoga is not a cure for multiple sclerosis, it is a therapeutic strategy with the potential to reduce some of the physical symptoms, enhance functionality and reduce fatigue. You may also find relief from spasticity, aches and pains. You can read about some of the experiences of our students on the links at the bottom of this page.
In Iyengar yoga there is a detailed focus on alignment to support the body’s joints, muscles, structure and function. The poses can be modified using props to support the body, and practised in their simplest form in a variety of positions. You can be standing, sitting in a chair or wheelchair, or even lying on the floor.
Our class for students with multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions is run by Korinna Pilafidis-Williams. We are also lucky to have regular visits from senior Iyengar yoga teacher Garth McLean, author of Yoga and Multiple Sclerosis: A Practical Guide for People with MS and Yoga Teachers.
