Iyengar yoga class levels

Beginners

For all students with less than two years experience of Iyengar yoga. Yoga postures (asanas) from the introductory syllabus are taught to develop strength, stamina and flexibility. These classes are suitable for any age group.

General

General yoga class levels are for students who have been doing Iyengar yoga regularly for two years or more. Work is more intensive than at Beginners level and you’ll be introduced to a wider variety of asanas, and basic pranayama.

Intermediate

For students with at least four years training in Iyengar yoga, who can maintain a stable Sirsasana and Sarvangasana for at least five minutes and who have established an independent practice. Work will be more demanding than at General level and asanas are studied in more detail.

60+

A moderately paced class for students aged sixty and over. It is suitable for new as well as longer term practitioners who find that Iyengar yoga helps them to maintain flexibility, stamina, confidence and balance. You will practice a range of poses that increase mobility and strength of the shoulders, spine, backs, hips and knees. Posture modifications are tailored to the level of each student.

Gentle yoga

This class offers those with minor physical ailments, pain and age-related challenges, the opportunity to continue with their yoga practice. Students must have at least 1 year’s recent regular attendance/practice of Iyengar yoga. Places are limited so this class is presently only open to students with health issues, on consultation with the teacher.

Pregnancy

Asanas to support a healthy pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Read more

Remedial

For those with specific health problems, by application. Read more

Pranayama

Yogic breathing for students practising at General level or above. Pranayama helps to control and calm the mind and recharge one’s energy.

Yoga teacher training

Our respected programme leads to certification as a teacher by the Iyengar Yoga Association (UK), and further training for qualified teachers. Read more

From time to time the Iyengar Yoga London team take photographs in classes and workshops for use on social media and in promotional material. Students are asked to let the teacher or a member of staff know if they do not want their image to appear in any photographs.
