Iyengar Yoga London is looking for a talented individual to act as House Photographer for one year.

Photography has been central to the popularisation of Iyengar yoga with the extraordinary images in Light On Yoga. This competition poses the creative challenge of capturing our much-loved building, our diverse community and the ethos of Iyengar yoga with its focus on precision, alignment and study.

Open to photography students and aspiring professional photographers in the UK.

The prize

  • The winner will be the House Photographer for Iyengar Yoga London for one year from the date of the award
  • In addition the winner will receive £500 as an acknowledgement of their achievement.
  • The winner will make no less than four visits over the year to Iyengar Yoga London in Maida Vale to photograph the environment, students and teachers. The years work will build a cohesive portfolio of pictures describing the work of Iyengar Yoga London.
  • The images will interpret the ethos of Iyengar Yoga London, based on precision, alignment, focus and study as developed by BKS Iyengar.
  • There is a requirement for up to date head shots of teachers alongside images of class work in progress, and evocative and descriptive images of the environment and props (which are key to Iyengar practice).
  • The winner’s images will be used in Iyengar Yoga London marketing, on the website and for any other Iyengar Yoga London purposes.
  • A selection of the images will be printed and on show at Iyengar Yoga London and prints will be available for purchase.
  • The images will be used exclusively by Iyengar Yoga London for a period of five years. Subsequently images may be syndicated by the winner providing all necessary model release clearance is obtained by the winner.
  • The winner will receive travel assistance and equipment hire re-imbursements to a maximum sum to be determined.

How to enter

Submit a written and storyboarded entry detailing your vision for a visual interpretation and record of Iyengar Yoga London. Along with purely photographic image making you must give written evidence of the following:

  • Your consideration and solutions to the practicalities of photographing in a busy studio environment where students and teachers are focussing on their work.
  • The equipment you intent to use to realise your creative vision.
  • Your plan to cover the image requirements in your four visits.

The Judging Panel

The panel will consist of representatives from the Iyengar Yoga London trustees, teachers, students and staff.

Dates

The competition will launch on 22 July 2022 and entries must be submitted by 4th September 2022. The winner’s tenure will be from October 2022 to September 2023.
