For new students or those with less than two years of experience.
Beginners classes introduce foundational yoga postures (asanas) to develop strength, stability, and awareness. These classes are suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Students do not need to complete an Introduction Course before attending, although it is strongly recommended for those entirely new to yoga.
For students with at minimum of two years of regular Iyengar yoga practice.
General level classes are more intensive and assume familiarity with basic standing, seated, and restorative postures. A wider range of asanas is introduced, along with the beginning study of pranayama (breath work). Attention is given to accuracy, endurance, and the refinement of alignment. Students are expected to have a stable foundation in inversions such as Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand).
For students with a minimum of four years of regular Iyengar yoga practice.
Students at this level should be able to maintain Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) for at least five minutes and have an established personal practice. Intermediate classes are demanding and detailed. Asanas are studied with greater precision, duration, and refinement. The work becomes more subtle, with increased attention to timing, breath, and internal awareness. Teachers at this level are senior practitioners with extensive training and experience within the Iyengar tradition.
